What is freeride skier?

A freeride skier is a type of skier who focuses on skiing in off-piste or backcountry terrain, rather than staying on groomed runs or in designated ski areas. Freeride skiers are often seeking challenging terrain, such as steep slopes, deep powder, and technical terrain features like cliffs and jumps. They may use specialized equipment, such as wider and longer skis, and may also carry safety equipment like avalanche beacons in case of emergencies. Freeride skiing is considered a more extreme and adventurous form of skiing, and requires a higher level of skill and experience than skiing on groomed runs.
